Piraten Partei and how to express criticism in German

If you’re familiar with German politics, you will no doubt have heard of the unconventional Piraten Partei which has gained around 25.000 members in just six years. The party’s main focus lies within freedom of the individual, privacy protection, as well as increased and facilitated access to knowledge, culture and education. In particular, it attracts young people of various social backgrounds. The Piraten Partei hit the headlines this weekend when a new party Chairman, Bernd Schlömer, was elected with a 66.6% majority of votes. Despite this fairly unambiguous result, there seem to be mixed feelings among the party’s online followers.
